It’s all in the juice

Yes, I’m talking about juicing veggies and fruits for longevity and health. My theme continues on the vein of supporting your liver function with foods, vitamins, and beverages and now speaking about my latest journey into juicing.

Whew, and it is a journey. Why? Because first you have to find a good juicer, take the time to shop for fruits, vegetables and herbs, juice em all and drinking is easy. But really, let’s add up the hours you spend watching tv or maybe that’s dated and you’re hours on the internet clicking through your social networking sites. My point is…YOU have the time. It’s about choosing to go out and make it happen.

So let me motivate you a little. Women? Do you want natural color in your cheeks? Do you want better looking skin? What about losing a little fat around the middle? Men? Do you want more energy? More sex drive? Lose a little fat around the middle too?

Why can I say all that? Because so many people are not getting enough vitamins, minerals, natural sugars, raw enzymes, green chlorophyll and more. Yes, more.

Passion, body cleansing, digestion, regularity, coupled with diet and exercise is the prescription to getting more of what you want. Juice to live and juice for life.

Liver Story, I’m not toying around here

There’s a saying in the world of nutrition that goes like this-it’s not only what you eat that makes you healthy, but what you digest and absorb(assimilate). Now that’s a mouthful. But just because you’re eating well does not mean your body is breaking it down through the digestive process and why not? Maybe it’s because you need to change the filter, so to speak.

Let’s see here, your liver’s responsible for: storing vitamins A,D,E,K, breaks down excess hormones, makes bile which breaks down fats, removes chemicals and bacteria, stores glycogen(energy), and a few other things I’ll pick up in future posts. But can you believe how much work it has to do? Now if you think you can go through life not caring about your liver you may live just fine. But then again maybe with a bit of liver support you might find your energy more vital, and your health better.

Think of your liver as a purifier or filter. Now, imagine an air purifier you have in your home, or your oil filter in your car, or an AC filter. When you clean those filters and/or replace them, what happens? They work better. Bottom line, they work better.

Now we are certainly not a machine, but our bodies have a filter or a purifier known as our liver. It’s time to change your filter or begin cleaning your filter known as your liver with healthful foods, beverages, and activities. I suggest you sweat, drink lemon water, eat good fats, and live r tip for the day?… eat chlorophyll rich plant foods and algae. Talk about purifying your blood, yes, that’s another job of your liver.

Did you know you can regenerate liver cells?!

We are an incredible body of systems, organs, and down to the cell which make up those systems and organs that have rejuvenation power.  This week let’s think rejuvenation through great nutrition. It can be done to a certain extent and it’s in your control of exercising your discipline to do that. Probably your desire to be healthy is there, but it’s the time, planning and discipline which also need work too.

I’m talking here to you the person who is generally healthy and wants to stay healthy and wants to get even healthier and stronger. Certain foods we know through good nutrition science are great for our bodies and minds. Certainly smoking, alcohol, drugs and pharmaceutical drugs which are abused can damage our liver and other organs. So see, it’s pretty simple. If you can just stay away or limit the usage of most of those products you’re doing great. No one is perfect so I’m calling this the journey into eating and drinking better for your liver.

Funny as I was researching this topic I came across a very important food for liver regeneration. Or I should say fat. And if you don’t know already I do have my 5 favs and supplements I’d want on a desert island. The good fats known as omega 3, 6, and 9’s were shown to be very important and supportive for liver cell rejuvenation.

Oh, I just was so happy the good fats from fish, flax, walnuts, hemp, chia, borage, evening primrose, black currant and algae are amongst the liver regenerative group. Look at my past posts, and find out more about the good fats and know they’re liver friendly. Now drink some lemon and water and add good fats to your diet today!

Take a load off your liver and live better

If I went on to explain the amount of work your liver has to do every day for you to live-r, you would be amazed. I’m focusing on our liver right now because I feel it’s a lost organ amongst the “cleansing” diets focusing on the colon. I’m all for that too, but let’s keep a whole minded approach and rotate our focus to other organs and systems of our bodies for support and strengthening throughout our year. Ok?

Let me mention a few functions of our liver pertaining to our weight management and health. A big, big job of our liver is too process toxins, endogenous, and dietary fats. Yes, that includes cholesterol, hormones, fats we eat, fats our bodies make naturally etc.. What do you think happens as we age, don’t eat right, smoke, drink alcohol, don’t exercise, eat processed junk food etc.? Our liver is our filtration or purification system which gets soooo tired it can’t keep up. Think about it. Why does cholesterol build up? Why would you start gaining more fat weight, feel tired, get more cellulite, a whole host of events that start happening? (please read my disclaimer on my site)

Live today to begin eating and drinking healthier for your liver. Read a few previous posts to start. And just for today flush your system with 64 oz of water. That’s all.

What get’s in the way of your liver doing it’s hundreds of functions? Alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs, processed foods, bad fats, food additives, do I need to say more? What supports your liver? Well obviously eliminating the above would be a place to start.

Live-r clean in a dirty world

Yes, yes, we live in an environment full of toxins from air, water, and food. But we have to keep doing things about it to clean it up and why not start with our own foods we choose, beverages we drink, and air we breathe(no smoking). Having said that, since we’re not all perfect, there are ways to support our bodies systems of detoxification even when we don’t stay on target. Today, I’m speaking about our liver.

As I mentioned last post, cellulite is a build up of waste which get’s trapped in the cell. But what is causing the clog? I bring this subject of my last post up again today because it too can be supported through liver detoxifcational practices. I mentioned lemon in water to support fat breakdown, supportive for digestion, and of course lemons contain vitamin c for nutritional value.

Two thousand years ago, yes, I said way before medical science came around there is history of use of a particular herb called milk thistle. Indigenous to the Mediterranean region when you crush the leaves it produces a milky white substance.

Research suggests that it may benefit the liver by protecting and promoting the growth of new liver cells. It does more too, but I’ll continue to elaborate in future liver cleansing posts. Dandelion, artichokes and beets are also very, very liver cleansing which you can begin today to include in your diet. Also, go greener, more tomorrow…

Cellulite be gone, poof?

I wish it were that easy, and an overnight sensation to explain how to get rid of the lumpy, bumpy, cottage cheese looking area on our bodies we’d love to eliminate. Right? First, it does effect women more than men and at any weight. Model thin women can have cellulite just as much as over fat women can have cellulite too. So doesn’t that make you wonder how can that be? And what’s going on physiologically in our bodies to make that happen? Well, if you don’t, I’ll do the thinking and explaining for you which is what fat vs thin is all about.

Part of how I would like you to start thinking  is that it’s a combination of factors which affect the health of your cells, organs and systems in your body. There isn’t one bullet point answer I can give you to get rid of cellulite, but I can suggest that there are a few things you can start doing.

First let’s talk about the detoxifying and purifying organ, your liver. And then we’ll talk about your lymphatic system, and of course diet, exercise, and supplements. I would like to start with your liver. Just because I, and many of my peers speak and write about the colon and colon cleansing as a means to detoxifying our bodies, it’s down the row when ridding your body of cellulite.

Live-r, to live. Be good to your liver. It’s such an important organ and I want to talk more about it next time. For now one of the best, and easy things you can do is drink lemon water. Lemons support the breaking down of fats. Your liver supports fat breakdown whether it’s: cholesterol, hormones, dietary fats, and toxins. So start squeezing lemons in your bubbly water or purified water and more next time!

Why can’t I lose weight?

Summer in Los Angeles, the tropics, the beaches etc., no matter where you live bathing suit season is upon us. Or even if you’ve been trying to lose weight for your general health, getting your sexy body back from having a baby, or just letting yourself go and it’s time to get your sexy body back, there’s no time like the present.

I’m going to muse a bit today because working in the diet field of thousands of diets which one would I suggest? And aren’t you wondering what it is I do to support weight loss in my clients? Hmmm, I’ll give you a few hints, maybe even tips today. Keep your eyes glued.

The one conclusive point I’ll say is, crash diets are the worst! Thinking you can drink liquids all day for one, two, three, seven, whatever the number is and lose the weight and keeping it off is so not right. I’m not even going to go into why, you can ask me on my facebook or here on my blog if you have a burning question why. Don’t do it.

I’m going to funnel it down to one word for you to work on today and for your diet…portions. Keep your portions minimal. Work on this and I’ll muse on weight loss tomorrow. Keep it small, but definitely eat.

Summing up carbohydrates

By all means I love to eat carbohydrates. Please do not think I want you to always and forever not put one bite of a simple carbohydrate in your mouth again. That would be truly unrealistic and no fun. I do live in reality of events, going out to celebrate, and getting all the flavors of life. But getting to know me, I will always strive for your best, most nutritious and healthy way of eating.

What I do want to parlay to you once more is, the majority of the time keep it complex. And do experiement with using a rice based type of carbohydrate such as rice pasta, breads, tortillas, cookies, cakes, protein powder and such. As I mentioned in a previous post, you can have your cake and eat it too.

See, one of things carbohydrates are good for is increasing the seratonin in your brain. Partly to make you feel happier. There was a study done on rheusus monkeys eating less(less carbohydrate) and showing better weight management not too long ago. But you know what they wanted to determine next? Are they happier. So partly when you go on a low or no carb diet and higher protein you may experience different moods. It’s all about balance and that’s how I work.

For those of you who read this and want to stay very lean, keep your weight managed, and so many other health benefits, practice a diet rich in plant based foods, lean protein, protein shakes, and continue reading for what else you should be eating.

Garbage in, garbage out…toxins in, toxins out

I am impressed with the amount of news features speaking about all the toxins in our environment and showing up in our blood samples, samples of fluid from a new mothers umbilical cord and of course the hair mineral lab analysis I perform shows; mercury, lead, and mineral levels in your body. Yet another news story on 60 Minutes last Sunday regarding a plastic chemical causing worry related to human health.

The latest statistic I read is there are more than 100,000 chemicals that are used commercially and 25,000(25%) are known to be hazardous to human health. OMG!

What can you do to detox the chemicals and “garbage” from your body? Don’t worry, don’t rush, it’s all chemistry my dear. I believe through good nutrition, exercise, supplements specific to chelating out toxins, amino acid therapy etc., you’d find better health and energy. But it takes work and time to find your right diet and program. Hence the individualized nutrition programs becoming so important to your lifestyle.

You have approximately 5 channels of elimination; bowels, lungs, kidney’s, lymph, and skin. Well, we can start there with your diet and lifestyle to get the toxins out. Maybe you already work up a good sweat by exercising, but your diet is crappy. That’s not going to work. You can’t band aid your nutrition with saying, “well, I’ll work it off tomorrow.”

Start today, think it over, I’ll give you 24 hours and then I want you to eat better!
