Astaxanthin, well someone had to write about it
Just because it’s such an unusual word, you don’t know quite what it is. I barely knew but had seen it in relation to my favorite algae. What I’m working to get across to you as I go through the alphabet of nutrition(I’m still in the A’s!), is to give you food sources, supplement sources and maybe even a nutrition lesson or two. Now class…
Today a nutrient found in algae(please read my last post on algae), salmon, krill, trout, and yeast is this very, very potent anitoxidant know as astaxanthin. Hmm, now what could that be good for? Let’s think color. In previous post I mentioned that certain colors of vegetables, fruits and foods could determine which antioxidants they may be highest in. Astaxanthin is found in the area of carotenoids, lutein, and the like known to be supportive for good eye health. At least science is comparing it to those two especially and saying how exponentially higher it is in antioxidant activity. As you learn about me, I always like to remind myself and others to not throw the baby out with the bath water. In other words, don’t say something is so much better than something else as you don’t continue to find the balance amongst all of nature.
Ok, eat your salmon, eat your egg yolks, eat trout and why not try and get some algae in your diet. Algae is very green, very healthy and full of all these wonderful, colorful antioxidants our eyes can’t visually see like orange, red, and blue. Anitoxidants, healthy aging, protein, natural energizers are all in the green. I guess you can call it the green team for your health. Enjoy.
Happy Holidays
