A for Acidophilus, Probiotics, Prebiotics, FOS what?
One of my other favorite nutrients besides the fatty acids which I’ve talked about in other posts are: probiotics, prebiotics, and I’ll throw in fos’s too. All of these are exceptional for gut health, immune support, digestion, assimilation, healthy cholesterol levels, and a plethora of other health benefits. I say other health benefits because the research continues.
Now the thing with probiotics is there are over 500 different strains of healthy bacteria. So sometimes you’ll see supplements being sold with a whole host of different strains as they’re called. Here’s the clincher, out of all these strains the one with the largest body of research is the species Lactobacillus acidophilus. The one bacteria found most prevalent throughout our system is this particular strain. So when shopping(my web site has a store for you) you always want to make sure this particular strain is found in the mix. One other important GRAS(generally recognized as safe) bacteria is Bifidobacterium, another well researched probiotic worth taking in the mix.
Now, there are foods which will also feed your healthy bacteria to actually naturally grow more. Yummy, these are called fos’s for short. Because ready, it’s short for fructooligosaccharides(and yes, I had to look up the spelling). One example of a food that would support these branched chain complex sugars is green foods such as spriulina and chlorella. Also beets have been shown to contain fos too.
Whew, I know this is all so intellectual so let me just to wrap this up neatly. I highly suggest with the e coli, candida albicans, h pylori, uti’s, digestive health, etc., etc., etc., we all make sure we are taking a good probiotic.
