The wizard of oz? I don’t think so.
Definitely Dr Oz, let’s get America in shape, and that’s what my blog fatvsthin is all about. I was watching tv and noticed his new show where he’s driving on a bus to help middle America lose weight. Showing which foods to eat, and of course exercise. He became famous talking on Oprah, throwing out a few health supplement suggestions i.e. omega 3 fatty acids, resveratrol, flax seeds, etc.. Ho, hum, give me something new please. I’m sorry I don’t mean to sound sarcastic. I guess all this “new” information is old in my book as I’ve been talking for years about all of these supplements.
Can I just say, keep reading fatvsthin. Dr Oz, Dr Perricone, Dr Weil, Deepak Chopra have brought everything the health food industry/supplement industry and new age philosophy have been talking and doing since the 60’s and before to the forefront, and it’s nothing new except to those who have said it’s snake oil from days gone by. NOW, don’t get me wrong here, and I guess as I get older and see the jumping on the bandwagon of health food and supplements by doctors(which have always said they are snake oil, unregulated and dangerous, ha!) it get’s my goat. So please, bear with me, I’ll get over it, I’m happy it’s all happening, I just don’t want you to think just because doctors say it’s good it is. Nutritional science is it’s own entity and knowing the intricacies of vitamins interacting with minerals interacting with digestion and assimilation is complex. So keep in mind to see a good nutritionist, holistic practioner and work with your doctor as a compliment.
Now, have you started your cleanse? Which one did you choose? More on that tomorrow, first day of Autumn.
So what’s wrong with these guys bringing health information to the masses? It seems you might be trying to do the same with your blog… Each of us are in charge of our own health, what we choose to watch, read, and put into practice. People are hungry for information about how to live healthier lives. I’m all for it! Keep the info coming!
Hi Tracy,
Thank you for your comment. The reason I take issue with these doctors jumping on the bandwagon is because they are the same doctors that 20 years and 30 years ago claimed none of these nutrients had any validity. Would not “recommend” these kinds of natural supplements and are part of the institution which tries to tell the consumer/public/you that this is a bunch of snake oil and don’t believe a word. Having said that, since most people over the years have become disillusioned, un-heard, put on prozac because of pms, candida, chronic fatigue and other such un-diagnosiable(sorry if this is not a word), in the medical “jargan” most doctors have had to succumb to the publics demands. Most medical doctors do not understand nutritional health/science(they don’t get but maybe 2 hours of nutritional science in medical school) and put patients on antibiotics and other pharmaceutical drugs recognized by the insurance companies which they get kick backs from(monetary, material items) and tell you your symptoms are not real or what you think. Now the story goes that because the environmental toxins, herbicides, vaccine shots, hormone injected animals, foods contaminated etc., etc., etc., have become prevalent, AND you have become a lot more nutritionally educated regarding these things, doctors have had to jump upon the bandwagon of natural health. OK, this is where I have a beef(no pun intended). I will not, and I will not give credit to these doctors who have tried to politically take supplements off the market, and where pharmaceutical, pepsi, heinz, etc., have recently bought vitamin, health food companies in the last 10 years. You know why Tracy? Money, greed, trend. I have no problem with getting the message out. But look who the messenger is. Truth or Trend, is what I write about and authentic or superficial is what I write about. Find the authentic companies, health care practitioners and stores which you want to give your money and support to, I hope you choose authentic.
