Fat Vs Thin

I was flying to San Francisco this past weekend to celebrate my dad’s 90th birthday. Certainly I don’t want to date myself, but I must say it’s an anomaly that he’s made it and I’m proud he’s not on any medication. Anomaly because he didn’t have the best diet in the world over the years, but seems that generation had some pretty good genes. Lucky for me. Back to my post story.

I’m on the plane, no magazine in hand so I’m reading the plane’s in flight magazine and there was this ad. Oh, I just thought how funny is this. My point regarding fatvsthin and to report to you truths not fiction and how some companies are jumping on the bandwagon of health just because. Well, here’s a perfect example my friends. An ad I’m staring at with big bold letters stating this hand made vodka is GLUTEN FREE. Yes, in letters like that….on a vodka bottle ad! C’mon, where’s the justice.

Ok, did that make you laugh? It did for me because I’m always looking at who’s really in it for truth or dollars. I’m going to bet dollars with this ad. Hey, I’m all for doing well in life, but I just thought how marketing departments for a vodka company think. Maybe it would go something like this. “Hey, have you seen all the products in the health food industry selling gluten free?” “Yea, I hear it’s becoming a million dollar business as more people are buying gluten free products”. “That’s it!!” Let’s place a big GLUTEN FREE ad statement on our print advertising that our vodka is gluten free.” “We will probably get a certain percentage of new customers shopping gluten free.”

Obviously this alcohol company wants you to become aware that maybe vodka is better than beer for gluten sensitivities, ok here’s to their marketing. Sorry for my sarcasm, but had to express.

Go back and look at my gluten free posts. I am a huge fan of gluten free when I work with clients. And I guess if they asked me can they drink alcohol, I can say well, why don’t you have a small amount of vodka when you want to drink. Oh god did I really say that? Please don’t quote me.
